Online First and Issue assignment
What Online First means, when your article receives volume/issue/page numbers, how to cite it, and how to promote and share it.
What "Online First" means
- Online First means your article is publicly published — it has a working DOI and anyone can cite it
- The article is at its final article URL — that URL stays permanent, even though volume/issue/pages will be added later
- The article counts toward your publication record — Google Scholar, DOAJ, Crossref will all pull its metadata
- Online First is a formal publication — it is NOT a preprint
Your DOI
- Format:
10.62219/cjes.YYYYNNN(e.g.10.62219/cjes.2026042) - Full link:
https://doi.org/10.62219/cjes.YYYYNNN - The DOI goes live within 24 hours of Online First publication — during that brief window the link may 404; it starts working as soon as Crossref ingests the metadata
- This DOI is permanent — you can cite it on your CV, your institution's page, LinkedIn, and it will always resolve to CJES
Timeline from acceptance to Online First
- Typical window: 2–4 weeks
- Stages: typesetting (5–7 days) → copyedit (3–5 days) → Author Proof (3–5 days) → final approval and publication (1–2 days)
- The usual bottleneck is Author Proof — if you respond quickly, your paper publishes quickly
How to cite your Online First article
Until an issue is assigned, use this format (APA 7 example):
*Surname, A. B., & Surname, C. D. (Year). Title.* Cambodian Journal of Educational Studies, *Advance online publication*. https://doi.org/10.62219/cjes.YYYYNNN
Once the issue is assigned (usually 1–6 months later), replace "*Advance online publication*" with *4*(1), 23–45 (for example). The DOI and everything else stays the same.
Issue assignment (later)
- Your Online First article remains "Online First" until it is linked to a numbered issue
- CJES publishes quarterly — your article will be assigned to the next issue with available space
- Issue assignment adds Volume, Number, and Pages — everything else (DOI, article URL, content) stays the same
- You receive an email notification when it happens — you don't need to do anything
- If you already cited your article as "Advance online publication", that citation is still valid — updating to the issue form is optional
Promotion and sharing
- Every CJES article is published under CC BY 4.0 — you and anyone else may share, redistribute, or adapt, provided authors are credited
- You may deposit the PDF on your institution's website, ScholarGPS, ResearchGate, or Academia.edu
- You may post on LinkedIn, Facebook, X, with the DOI link
- You may include the DOI on your CV, in grant proposals, in job applications
- If your institution has a repository (OpenAIRE, Zenodo), you may deposit the article there
Indexing and metrics
- Google Scholar ingests CJES articles within 2–4 weeks of Online First
- Crossref ingests the metadata immediately (within 24 hours)
- DOAJ ingests metadata every 2 weeks
- ORCID is linked automatically if you provided your ORCID iD at submission — the article appears on your ORCID profile
- Citation counts start showing in Google Scholar after 1–2 years, once other articles begin citing yours
